In a recent edition of The Digital Edge, hosts Sharon Nelson, president of the digital forensics, information technology, and information security firm Sensei Enterprises, and Jim Calloway, director of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Management Assistance Program, reviewed approximately two dozen of their favorite tech toys for the holidays.
Sharon and Jim’s conversation ranged from contemplating the pros of cons of having a grill-cleaning robot to the usefulness of a Nixie, a wearable camera that can fly, helpful for that awkward moment when you’re rock climbing and want to take a selfie.
Now I’m not much into drones, Roombas, or yachts made of glass. And I agree with Sharon that I’d be miffed to be woken up by the Bacon Scented iPhone Alarm Clock only to find that there is, in fact, no bacon on the stove. On a practical side, I know I need a new laptop and tablet, so I should probably look into the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.
But really, what’s on my wish list this year, are these cool toys that Sharon and Jim introduced me to:
- Instant Lab from The Impossible Project: Wow! Now you can transform an image into an instant photograph. Hang on. This sounds familiar. That’s right: Instant Lab produces instant photographs from your iPhone digital images in the class square frame made famous by Polaroid™. Ah, the good old days …
- Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger. Great Scott! Unfortunately, this is not a REAL flux capacitor, but it still would be cool to have it pulsing away on the dashboard as I crawl through rush-hour traffic, dreaming of the route I’d take if I could go back in time.
- Sterling Silver 16GB USB Cufflinks: Oooh, multi-functional bright and shiny objects. Perfect for James—or Jane—Bond.
- Nod: Now this remote control device that you wear as a ring is not nearly as pretty or shiny as the cufflinks, but I love the idea of making things happen with just a wave of my hand, like a character out of “Once Upon a Time.”
- Star Wars Interactive R2D2 Astromech Droid Robot: He’s no longer in a galaxy far, far away! Having my very own R2D2 is a bucket list item for me—although he’s shorter and moodier than I’d imagined him to be.
