Congratulations on your new position as the law office administrator, reporting directly to the managing partner. As you prepare for your first meeting with the managing partner, it’s essential to ask the right questions to gain clarity on your role and responsibilities. Here are some questions to consider.

  1. What are the key priorities for the law office in the next six months?
  2. How do you envision my role contributing value to our clients?
  3. What strengths or qualities did you see in me that led to my appointment as the law office administrator?
  4. Looking ahead six months, what outcomes would indicate success in this position?
  5. What is your vision for the law office and its growth in the future?
  6. Can you share insights on leadership tipping points you’ve experienced throughout your career?
  7. How can I support you in your role as the managing partner to make your job easier?
  8. What are some qualities you value most in exceptional team members you’ve worked with in the past?
  9. Are there specific individuals, both within and outside the organization, that I should build relationships with?
  10. If you were in my position, what approaches or strategies would you consider to succeed in this role?
  11. What advice do you have for me as I take on this new position as the law office administrator?
  12. How do you define personal success, and how can I help you achieve it in your role?

During your meeting with the managing partner, remember to:

  1. Bring a notepad to take notes on their responses.
  2. Ask follow-up questions.
  3. Express gratitude for their time and advice.
  4. Follow up in a week or two to share your reflections on the conversation and seek alignment on your plans.

Approach the meeting with passion, confidence, and a willingness to learn and grow. A touch of humility will go a long way in setting a positive tone for your new role as the law office administrator. Best of luck in your new position!
